EventsCorp Western Australia

EventsCorp is a division of Tourism Western Australia which develops and secures major events that generate substantial visitor expenditure into WA and market the state's tourism destinations to national and international markets.

It was established as a result of the 1987 America 's Cup defence in Fremantle to ensure the State maximised opportunities presented by the event, EventsCorp sets world benchmarks, with post-event research consistently reporting high satisfaction among stakeholders with EventsCorp's organisation, management and support before, during and after events.

The Warren Jones Foundation

The Warren Jones Foundation was formed in mid 2002 after the untimely death of Warren Jones AM, who played pivotal role in AUSTRALIA II's successful challenge to win the America 's Cup in 1983.

The core activity of the Foundation is to conduct the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta. The regatta has been very successful and has grown in reputation so that it is now arguably the leading youth match racing regatta in the world.

The Foundation recently expanded its aims to include the promotion of sailing in general and has taken a leading role in the Perth Bid to host the 2011 ISAF World Sailing Championships.

Iam Campbell, The Hon.

Ian Campbell is a Company Director of two highly successful Australian Companies in information Technology and Shipbuilding. He recently retired from a 17 year career as a Senator in the Australian Federal Parliament. He was a member of the Executive for the past 11 years serving in various portfolios including Treasury where he rewrote Australia 's Corporations Law including shifting Australia to International Financial Reporting Standards, and for the past 3 years served in Cabinet. He led international movements to maintain the moratorium against killing whales and towards effective international action to reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

 Ian Campbell enjoyed success as a sailor at national and international level. A State Champion in Lasers, Solings, Etchells and Dragons. A National Champion in Etchells in 1986 as crew for Willy Packer, and 2nd place getter in the World Championships in the Soling Class in 1982. Ian and Willy were runners-up in the Olympic selection trials for Australia for the '84 Games.

Ian now sails a Tasar with wife Brenda as crew, and a Laser, as well as being "pit crew" for children Edward who sails 420's, and Douglas and Sabrina who race Optimists.

Syd Corser OBE AM

Syd has enjoyed many highlights during his career but none more important than his view of the sport.

He has competed very successfully at State, National and International Level. Syd believes that "Sailings future success lies in the development of youth".  

Syd was a member of the planning committee for the establishment of the "Warren Jones Memorial Youth Regatta" to encourage youth match racing at international level.

Syd was co-founder of the Junior Exchange Sailing Scheme (JESS) at the Royal freshwater Bay Club in 1988, with Huck Scott. It provides an opportunity for 6 junior sailors to undertake 6 weeks of competition in Europe.

In 1982 Syd was Chairman of organising committee for National & World Soling Championships in Western Australia and in 1986 was awarded the Ron Tough Gold medal for his contribution to yachting administration.

In 1987 Syd was a Member of RPYC 1987 America 's Cup Defense Regatta Committee 1985-1987.In 1991 he was Chairman of planning committee for World Etchell Championships off Fremantle.

In 1992 Syd received the Citizen of the Year Award in the category of sport for his contribution to yachting.

In 1999 he was a member of the planning & finance committee for the construction of the 1606 Duyfken replica.

John Longley AM

John Longley was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce in 2000.

As one of Australia 's most accomplished international yachtsmen, John's most important and memorable time was being a member of the crew on AUSTRALIA II during its historic win in the 1983 America 's Cup.

John led the Endeavour Replica Project and the formation of HM Bark Endeavour Foundation in September 1991. The Endeavour was launched on 9 December 1993 and has continued to be an outstanding success playing a major international ambassadorial role.

In 1984 John was made a member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his services to yachting and in 1994 Fremantle Citizen of the Year. He was also awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and the Centenary Medal in 2003.

C.M (Skip) Lissiman OAM

Skip was appointed the Executive Officer of the Western Australian Yachting Foundation in 1990.

Sailing has been a large part of Skip's life and he has sailed in many International and National Championships.

Skip has sailed in 3 Americas Cups and coached the Victory Challenge team in 2003 for his fourth Cup - 20 years after being winning the Americas Cup with the AUSTRALIA II team in 1983.

He has been an active Etchells skipper for the past 18 years & current National & midwinter Australian Etchells champion.

For services to yachting Skip was awarded the Order of Australia (OAM) in 1984.

He was also awarded an Australian Sports Medal in 2000.

He is currently the Chairman of the Regatta committee of the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta and has been the Regatta Director of the International Grade 1 match racing regatta, The Monsoon Cup, since its inaugural regatta in 2005.

Skip was a member of the organising committee for the 1991 and 2006 Etchells World Championships off Fremantle.

Skip is the Vice President of the International Twelve Meter Class representing Oceania and also the Western Australian representative for team and match racing with Yachting Australia.

Belinda Stowell OAM

Belinda is an Olympic Gold Medallist from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and continued to compete in the 470 Womens class through to Athens in 2004.

The opportunity to give back to the sport came through the chance to set up a High Performance Sailing program in Perth , Western Australia.

She is the Head Coach of the Sailing Program at the Western Australian Institute of Sport. The program is now one of the best in Australia , and is growing each year. Belinda has been able to pass on her experiences from being an athlete under the greatest 470 coach, Victor Kovalenko, and develop her coaching style and sailors. She coached the young girls, Belinda Kerl and Chelsea Hall from WA to a gold medal at the ISAF Youth World Championships in 2006, and continues to inspire and motivate athletes in WA to follow the Olympic dream and to be the best in the world at their sport.

Belinda continues to compete in sailing having changed to the windsurfer, competing at a national level in the Neil Pryde RSX class.

Peter Gilmour

Peter has considerable event experience having been the driving force behind the Australia Day – ANZ 12m Challenge in the early 1990's. And later a part of forming the bid for sailing with SOCOG. His background in sports marketing has served many facets from raising sponsorship for America 's Cup teams to managing international television rights.

He developed a system of rankings for sailors that is now the ISAF Match Race Rankings and sat on the ISAF Match Race Committee for 5 years.

As an international sailor he has been involved in several America 's Cup efforts, Peter competed in the Americas Cup as skipper in 1987, 1992, 2000 and 2003 and was the head coach in 1995 and recently for the defending 2007 Americas Cup team, Alinghi.

In his early years Peter won World Championships in the Two Ton Class, E22 Class and 12m Class, before becoming involved in the management and leadership of organisations. His travels have taken him to live and work for Australian, Japanese, American and Swiss sailing teams.

As a result of competing with his team PST on the Match Race circuit for over 25 years he has amassed 4 World Championships in Match Racing and won many events numerous times. Recently Peter and his family have returned to Perth to contribute locally through sport, business and the coaching of youth development.

He is the advisor behind the Monsoon Cup in Malaysia , and was recently awarded the title of Dato' for his efforts in inspiring international goodwill towards Malaysia .

Ron Packer

Ron has been involved in property management and investment, both privately and through the ASX listed P A Property Trust.

Ron has been a member of a number of industry advisory committees and has served on the Commercial Tribunal and on the Board of the Western Australian Maritime Museum .

On the sailing front Ron has completed seven Sydney Hobart races. He has also competed in the Newport Bermuda Race, the Trans Atlantic Race, the Fastnet Race, the Admiral's Cup 1973 the America's Cup in 1974, the Kenwood Cup in 1990, the America's Cup Jubilee 2001, the New York Yacht Club Sesquicentennial Regatta in 1994 and eight World Championships in the Soling, Etchells and Flying Fifteen Classes.

On the administration side of sailing Ron has been involved in all aspects of yacht club activities including serving as Commodore of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club from 1994 – 1996. He has been President, Secretary and/or Treasurer of various class associations and was a member of the Organising Committee for the Etchells Class Australian Championships 1989, World Championships 1991, Australian Championships 1996 and the Royal Yacht Squadron Organising Committee for the America 's Cup Jubilee 2001.

Vern Reid

Vern is the Chief Executive Officer of The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

He has spent most of his working life in professional sport, serving as Marketing Manager of the Americas Cup Defence in 1987, Director of Special Events at EventsCorp, General Manager of the Perth Wildcats and Marketing Manager of the Fremantle Football Club.

He has also sat on the Boards of the Yachting Foundation of WA and Basketball WA.

Vern is currently a member of the Board of Rugby WA and a Councilor of St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls.

Peter Leonhardt

Peter Leonhardt is a company director and advisor with extensive business financial and corporate experience and is Chairman of the ASX listed company Carnarvon Petroleum Limited.

He had a 35 year professional career as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was a senior Partner and Managing Partner of Coopers & Lybrand in Western Australia.

Peter has served for over ten years as a member of the board of the Yachting Foundation of Western Australia. He is also a director of the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research and a member of the board of the Perth International Arts Festival.

As a longstanding member of Royal Perth Yacht Club Peter has been a social sailor for most of his life and currently sails an S80 from the club.
