Our Story - The 2011 Race

On June 4 2007 Tourism Minister Sheila McHale announced the Western Australian Government's full support of Perth's bid for the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. This announcement was the start of a race for Western Australia against seven other sailing nations to present the best case for hosting this prestigious international event.

EventsCorp, the Western Australian Government's major events agency, in partnership with the Warren Jones Foundation has formed the Perth 2011 Bid Committee and will lead Western Australia's bid for the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. In the case our bid is successful the Warren Jones Foundation will lead the team to deliver a world-class championships unlike any seen before.

On 2 July 2007 the next ISAF Sailing World Championships will officially begin in Cascais, Portugal. Perth 2011 will be attending the 2007 Cascais Worlds to observe the event and meet with ISAF officials to further define the event and bidding requirements.

We will need to submit our official bid document with ISAF by 1 September 2007 and will have an opportunity to present Perth and Western Australia as the ideal host for the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships in October 2007.

We are expecting that an announcement on the successful bidder will be announced by ISAF in November 2007. Wish us luck!

The Perth 2011 Bid Committee will be working extremely hard on fine-tuning our event concept and bid for the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships over the next couple of months.

This is going to be a very competitive international bid and Western Australia's bid is going to require the support of the entire community. Click to register your support.
