Our Plan - Legacies

2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships Observer Program
Western Australia has vast experience in hosting major national and international sporting events, including sailing events. It is the aim of the Western Australia 2011 Organising Committee that this experience, including key learnings from the hosting of the event, is passed on to both ISAF and potential future hosts of the ISAF Sailing World Championships.

This will assist in ensuring that best-in-class practice is passed on and the status of the event on the international stage continues to increase.

With ISAF’s approval, the Western Australia 2011 Organising Committee plan to introduce a formal observer’s program to the event.

The 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships Observers Program will be developed with the aim of facilitating knowledge exchange and ensuring continual improvement from one event to the next, preventing the loss of knowledge due to the time lapsed or the change in organising committees.

The 2011 ISAF Championships Observers Program will offer participants a unique opportunity to learn about and better understand a major multi-class event, as well as gain valuable knowledge on bidding for and staging future major events.

The program will be targeted at future bidders, government officials, event organisers and other event agencies.

The program will showcase and outline a broad range of issues related to the operation of the event, such as logistics, broadcasting, event management, press operations, sponsorship, security, environmental programs and many more.

From detailed operational briefings to general over-arching learnings, the program will provide a unique insight into a unique and significant international event.

ISAF Sailing World Championships Education Program
Hosting the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will provide a unique opportunity to create positive and engaging learning experiences for students, teachers and school communities. The ISAF Sailing World Championships Education Program will be designed to help schools use the event as a platform for learning.

The Education Program has three main aims that are supported by a range of classroom resources and associated activities providing every school with the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the ISAF Sailing World Championships and Australia’s role in it, and about athletes from different countries and their way of life;
  • Link teachers, students and school communities across Australia with each other; and
  • Participate in ISAF Sailing World Championships events such as the Opening Ceremony, as well as in ISAF Sailing World Championships-related community activities.

Schools will also be encouraged to get involved in some of the proposed ISAF Sailing World Championships environmental programs such as planting trees to help off-set carbon emissions produced during the event.
